Services building in Gamarra Sports Centre, Vitoria-Gasteiz

This services buildings for 3 swimming pools had to be carefully integrated into its surrounding, protecting several important trees and relaxation spaces whilst providing accessible approaches for maintenance and chemical products vehicles by subtly splitting the building into two with a descending ramp.

Half the building is sunken and materials and installations were incorporated carefully to reduce its aesthetic impact. Its appears as an abstract timber box surrounded by trees with its semi-transparent qualities making it almost disappear into its natural context when sunlit.

Its functions are separated: mechanical filters and pumps in the larger part with electrical in the other. There is a deep basement, of the same length of the building, that provides deposits for the recirculting of the pool´s water. Any excess water unsuitable for the pools is diverted to the sports centre´s grey water network.
